What our moms are saying about the Peer Counselor Program
“I would love to continue receiving peer counseling longer than 6 months. My counselor supported me and believed in me. It was nice to have that support.”
Muriel
“She is everything that I did not expect. She is a great person and I am very grateful to her for accompanying me in these six months. I had never met such a kind person”
Erika
What our Peer Counselors are saying about the program
“A peer counselor to me means that I am able to be that cheerleader that mommy needs when she isn’t sure if she is doing the right thing or not. I’m here to guide her and not judge her and be able to help her make more informed decisions. When she feels she is not being heard I am here to provide and ear and listen to her on her time of need. It sometimes feels like motherhood is something you do alone and you learn things as you go, but I’m here to accompany the mom in her journey and make sure she has someone to lean on in her time of need.”
Crystal, Santa Ana West WIC
“Being a peer counselor is not just providing info to a breastfeeding mom, but it is empowering a family to make healthy choices with their family and I love that I get to be part of the empowerment. This person (mom) is advocating for herself and being the voice for her baby needs and for her family.”
